Houthis confirms his prime minister assassinated on Israeli strike

The Yemen’s rebel movement has confirmed that its self-proclaimed Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser al-Rahawi was killed on an Israeli aerial strike earlier this week.

The group supported by Iran said that several other senior officials were killed when Israel’s Defense forces (IDF) on Thursday directed the capital of Yemen, Sanaa.

The IDF said that Rahawi and other senior Houthi officials were “eliminated” when Israeli hunting planes had a meeting in the Sanaa area.

The Houthis have controlled much of Yemen in the northwest since 2014, after having expelled the internationally recognized government from Sanaa and triggered a devastating civil war.

The Houthis said that Rahawi had been killed with several Huthi ministers, although he did not name the others.

The Saudi Arabia news site, Al-Hadath, reports that Houthis Foreign Minister, as well as the Ministers of Justice, Youth and Sport, Social Affairs and Labor, were killed.

The Mahdi al-Mashaat office, Houthis President, said that several other ministers “suffered moderate and serious injuries” as a result of the strike.

He added that Muhammad Ahmed Mifah, Houthi’s vice -first -time, would play the role of Rahawi.

Rahawi had been in charge since August 2024 and was largely considered as a figure of the movement instead of being part of the higher circle of decision -making that plans military operations.

It was not said that Abdul-Malik Ahuthi, the final leader of the movement, as well as the Minister of Defense of the Group and the Chief of Staff, were not among the victims in a Thursday attack.

The FID said in a statement at the end of Saturday that he had been “in a few hours” strike of receiving intelligence about the meeting.

He said he was still evaluating the complete impact of the operation.

Since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis have regularly launched missiles in Israel and have directed commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, saying that they act in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Israel, in turn, has made aerial attacks on target parts of Huthi Yemen, with the declared purpose of reducing Houthi attacks.

Last week, Israel said he had reached Houthi’s goals in Sanaa, in response to the missile attack of the movement that Israel said he had been carrying ammunition of cluster.
